How do I market my sugar beans?

It’s been a while since we shared correspondence we get from visitors looking for pointers. The above is one from this morning

Where can one store sugar beans around Groblersdal and how can I get to have the buyers since I’m a new emerging farmer and I’m busy writing my business plan?

Hi ***

Before we discuss some contacts, there is a page on our website which gives ideas about how to market produce. See “Marketing” at www.agribook.co.za/marketing/. The next (and obvious page) is “Dry beans” at https://agribook.co.za/agronomy/dry-beans/. I will refer to it in this email.

The Dry Bean Producers’ Organisation (DPO) will be a first stop. I have met them before at shows in which they display what they do for emerging farmers. From https://droebone.com/bean-producers-organisation-dpo/ you’ll see that Mr Bok van Zyl is the contact (Free State Central). There aren’t contact details for him and the district people, and you will need to contact them via the website. I have cc’ed the DPO on this email.

The ARC Grain Crops at Potchefstroom is another contact. It has worked closely with the DPO in the past.

Christine Meyer is a buyer of sugar beans and asked for her details to appear here. Write to her at christine.meyer100 [at] gmail.com.

We visited the Naledi Farmers Cooperative in the Eastern Free State a while back, and they had just harvested sugar beans. They may also have advice. I have also cc’ed Anton Chaka here.

Best wishes,
Craig
