Hot dry conditions and rugged geology of the Western Cape’s Little Karoo and Bree River area produces quality grapes, citrus, stone fruit and other crops although the challenging condition of the area are tough on tractors and equipment which need to be well put together in order to endure.

In these areas the tried and tested range of Kubota tractors reign supreme and the well-known orange machines are a much-loved hallmark of the area. The local dealer for Kubota in the area, KH Trekkerdienste is equally well-liked and after more than 30 years in the industry in Rawsonville and Robertson is a stalwart of the community. It is clear to see that in this tight-knit community reputations count and reliability and honesty are valued.

KH Trekkerdienste’ Philip Hanekom says success in this area boils down to unflinching customer service … and hard work. His teams at both branches have full-service facilities and well-equipped field services to handle maintenance and repair work quickly and efficiently, while support staff ensure the shelves are kept well stocked to look after the farmers in the area’s Kubota machines.

“Needs change and we do our best to stay on top of the trends to ensure we have the right equipment for farmers when they need it and then keep the right spares and parts in stock to support these machines. This season, for example, has been an unusual one with farmers buying many more TLBs and mini excavators than usual and it is true that when another farmer sees how quickly an excavator can uproot an entire vineyard or lay irrigation etc, it becomes a necessity rather than a luxury.

“It may also indicate that a lot of new developments are taking place and also shows that our farmers are using more specialised machines to get the jobs done more quickly and efficiently. We have also seen a big spike in the sales of smaller tractors which we believe is largely due to fuel economy and the versatility of our newest range of tractors which play right into our farmers requirements. As a result, we pay careful attention to these developments and work closely with the local supplier of Kubota in South Africa, Smith Power Equipment, to get our stock holding right to meet these needs,” says Philip.

He adds that Smith Power Equipment’s area manager in the Western Cape, Nichol Schreuder services the area and is an agricultural equipment expert who works alongside the KH Trekkerdienste team to find the right solutions for each farmer’s requirements. Equipment has changed quite a bit and with guidance from experts it is possible to completely transform the fortunes of a farm by using the right tools for the job and switching to reliable and durable Kubota machines.

Nichol adds, “KH Trekkerdienste is one of our top performing dealers nationwide and covers a large area with many different types of farms. They work hard for their community and it shows. They have won numerous awards as Kubota’s Best parts Dealer Overall for 2022 and were runners up in 2023 where they also were runners up for the Kubota Best Construction Machine Sales throughout the country. This is a huge achievement when one considers the size and scale of farming throughout the rest of the country.”

He concludes that as the distributor for Kubota equipment in South Africa, the company is comfortable in the knowledge that the area is in the best hands and enjoys the support of well-equipped facilities, field services and a team of professionals with their customers’ best interests at heart.
